Assasins Creed to become a film!

I know that Empire Magazine have reported this ages ago but I just felt the need to post about this.

Ubisoft (the games company) back in May announced to the film reporting journalists that it would form its own film company Ubisoft Motion Pictures so as to put up on the cinema screen some of its biggest named games like:

  • Splinter Cell
  • Assassins Creed
  • Ghost Recon
Assassins Creed though is one of these games that Sony wants to definitly give this a go as Variety reported that Sony Pictures has been trying to secure the rights for this as they want to develop this into a new franchise of films based on this videogame.

Other studios who want to develop as well as distribute this film are Universal Studios. And now Sony has finally won this bidding war...and Sony has been eyeing up more opportunities to make video games into new franchises of TV and films. Sony's other adaptions now include a new TV series that will be shown on Nickelodean that has been based on the  RabbidRabbits video game.

Other projects in the pipeline for Sony are it's adaption of "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune", and "InFamous"...these are already going through directors and producers.

Variety also says in this report that the former CEO of Luc Besson's EuropCorp will be heading up Ubisoft Motion Pictures,-Jean-Julienne Baronnet,-. It says that:

"Ubisoft wants to maintain more creative control over the development of it's games for other platforms rather than broker traditional one-off licensing deals with studios..."

"The company views adaptions as a way to turn its games into larger brands that will get the titles in front of more consumers while creating lucrative new revenue sources for the company..."

I thought though only the other day that after I saw a advert for the new Assassins Creed game that it definitely should be made into a film as it looks like there are definite elements that look like it has been taken from a cinema script and transported to the video game world.

But then that got me thinking, if it was going to be a film I would definitly want it to be on the same level as Hitman as that was for me an amazing video to film adaption.

And just as a reminder their has been a rumour on the grape vine that the big buffs in movie land want another Hitman and that they want Timothy Olephant to do this Hitman 2.
